We have a decade and a half between our ages and yet she’s one of my greatest confidants. Friendships can be blessings no matter the age gap or geographical distance, and my friendship with @sewjoyfulstudio blesses me on the regular. She’s hilariously and genuinely real, so kind, and extremely talented. I’m so thankful she’s in my life.

When Rachel offered to test the bed size Sun Still quilt, I about fell over with gratitude because I know this girl is already busy about so many great things. What we found out through her testing process is that the bed size *also* only took approximately five hours to make, just like all the other sizes!

🤩 Look at this beauty! And … she has kits on her website using these exact colors. (((Absolutely gorgeous))) This bed sized beaut will be in her camper van and go on amazing trips with her family 😍

Rach also just launched a pattern for these absolutely stunning stockings. Oh my heavens they are so good! She’s been sharing different tester versions in her stories and I’m wowed by every color combination. You still have time to make these gorgeous stockings, and share pics! When someone says “this is an ACTUAL sunset I’m trying to recreate” you drop everything and start pulling bolts of fabric to help find the perfect palette. This girl has so much talent that I am starstruck by her! She pieces gorgeous things on the regular AND she has free tutorials linked in her bio!

Emily of @marthajanecreations curated a version of my Sun Still mini that will make you rethink everything you thought was obvious in quilting.

Why didn’t I think to put two sunset blocks together to make a show-stopper table runner? I have no idea but it’s all good because EMILY DID! Then she executed it brilliantly with gorgeous colors that make me feel like I’m watching the sun go down while soft and warm colors streak across the sky.

Have you seen the Land of Enchantment collection of fabric by @becca.plymale.creative for @artgalleryfabrics? Wow. Wow. Wow.

What an honor it has been to have Becca testing my Sun Still pattern. 😊 Becca’s collection of fabrics, called Land of Enchantment, are simply gorgeous together in my design. The rich colors are the perfect reflection of what you would see in New Mexico, including hot air balloons at their big annual festival. 🎈

Her version of Sun Still is fantastic! I had already been playing with mock ups of my pattern in @quilt_ink using Becca’s fabrics and then boom 💥 she came along and blew me out of the water with her test quilt. I love it so much that I have kits available with her fabrics!

And can we talk about this perfect panto, called Mazey, designed by @thequiltingmill? The crinkle is going to be superb!

Have you ever shared something personal with a semi-stranger and thought “welp, that’s either going to sever this conversation or strengthen the relationship!” That’s me and @colt_and_lamb in a nutshell 😂🫣 We have some similarities in our personal lives *and* in our quilting worlds. Not to mention we share an affinity for good diagrams in quilt patterns 🙌🏼

Dana is a hoot, she’s exceptionally generous with her time, and she has a beautiful heart for people. My goodness what a joy it has been to have her on my tester team for Sun Still!

Ladies and gentlemen… meet Jenn!!! She’s a part time quilter (those day jobs get in the way of quilting!) with a full time passion for creativity and fun. Aaaand it turns out we have some personal connections that aren’t at all connected to the quilting community which is crazy-town small world stuff!

Jenn’s test quilt makes me want to call my bestie, tell her to come over with snacks, and curl up on the couch for movies, chatter, and solid girl time. Her colors are SO GOOD, her color placement is SO GOOD! And y’all she even long arm quilted it herself 😍 She found her fun and fabulous fabrics at @sewcialcreatives in The Colony, TX.

Have you ever had a burning question to ask a stranger and you talk yourself out of it for a long time? That was me. But then one day I messaged this girl on Instagram and tripped over myself asking if @its.sew.nichole wanted to test for me.

She was like “I’m so honored aaaand I have questions.” And so it began … another fun relationship with a talented quilter I’ve never actually met in person. I know I’m not the only one making internet friends out here!

Nichole jumped in with both feet and outdid herself with this fabulous version of my Sun Still pattern. She had excellent feedback and suggestions - and even pointed out that I pretty much skipped over the instructions on cutting the binding 🫣 No worries, we fixed it 😂 This is exactly why we test things, people.

I feel like we should collectively boost her Insta account with follows because not only does she make beautiful things, she’s a kind human!

☀️ It’s Sun Still Release Day! There is a magical time of day when I wish the sun would stay perfectly still. Sometimes it’s during sunrise and sometimes it’s during sunset. The sky gets painted in magical colors that bring me such peace. Hold on to those magic moments and make your own sunrise or sunset in colors that make you swoon!

🍁What a joy it has been to see so many kind comments about Abby’s block. She’s an incredible student of our craft, y’all! Her patterns are beautifully written and her designs are perfectly modern with a traditional underlay. We have loved sharing her with you this past week!

🌰 Abby captured the simplicity of Fall in her Oakwood Block, which is a nod to the oak trees of her childhood years. Abby’s clever mix of a traditional log cabin block, but mini sized, with basic Fall shapes is a joy to put together. As you see each leaf take shape you’ll feel a little spark of joy and that acorn is surprisingly satisfying to piece! 🐿️

It’s tough to be a beginner in any hobby, career, or course. Sometimes you feel like such a fish out of water that it’s easy to think you’ll never reach a level of achievement that you’ll be proud of.   But the quilting world is different in that I often see quilters helping quilters. “A quarter-inch seam? What is that? Why do I need that? Wait now you want me to use a SCANT quarter-inch seam? What the heck is that?” 
When I heard that two friends of @sewjoyfulstudio decided to jump ALL IN with quilting and used the Sweater Weather Sampler as an entry point, I found myself immediately rooting for them. Then Rachel told us that she hosted a little quilt-along at her house with several new quilters and … well if you know me at all, you know I cried. It’s just beautiful to see quilters helping quilters.  None of us start out with knowledge, we have to read, watch, learn, try, make mistakes, and grow. The Nine Patch Quilt Collective is a design entity, sure, but we are so much more than that. These girls know some of the extreme physical difficulties I’ve faced over the past 13 months and they have truly shown up for me.

I have received cards in the mail, sweet comments, funny FUNNY conversations in our group “chat”, and constant affirmation and kindness on the days I can’t walk, sit, sleep, etc without pain.

Enter #sweaterweathersampler2024 stage left. I pushed as hard as I could through the pain to finish all of my blocks before my surgery in May so that I would have content to share each week, especially in our reels and the cutie Brady Bunch picture @heck.yes.sewco always makes for us with all 9 of our blocks together. But … I couldn’t do it. There were 3 blocks I just *could not* finish despite my best efforts.

Megan of @quiltscoutsofamerica said, “ship them to me …. I’ve got you.” So through my tears I packed up the random pieces of the last 3 blocks plus 152 scraps that I wasn’t sure if she would need, and shipped it all from Texas to Colorado.

My husband brought the package straight to my hands when he saw it in the mailbox with Megan’s name and Colorado on the return address. “I think this will bring you some joy today,” he said. 🥹 The very first sewing project I was able to conquer post-surgery was sewing my 9 blocks together. I purchased my backing fabric at @downtowndrygoods, then Sarah at @rahrahquilting worked her long arm magic and incorporated this SUPER cool panto by @thequiltingmill.

It took more than a month before I could sit and handstitch the binding, but she’s done and I love her.

This quilt is my friendship quilt … it’s not “just a sampler.” Seeing thousands of you make this quilt all around the world brings us so.much.joy.

Thank you for sewing with us and spreading our friendship glitter all around the globe 🌏

Turquoise is bold and captivating! It is also a mineral that is turned into simply beautiful jewelry. Turquoise signifies the reflection of the sky and it symbolizes water which is scarce in the southwest. There’s just so much to love about turquoise!

🦌 Sometimes Dana sends me incredible photos taken from the land and the water around her little cabin in the woods. It’s her home away from home with her family. It is peaceful, it is filled with adventure, and it’s where they make so many memories together.

🌾 When she sent us the initial mock up of her design for the Sweater Weather Sampler, we all gasped! Not only is the simple beauty of her block perfect, it also perfectly captures the place where her heart finds such peace. Last year her block captured the sunset through the aspen trees from this same little cabin.
