It’s January and I see lots of “no spending” posts lately. Are you trying to use up fabric you already have on hand? My Ponder Pieces pattern is perfect for you and was written for three reasons (oh, and it’s free!):

1. I had this fabric by @thimbleblossoms that I had been holding onto tightly for years because I wanted to be certain every single print would be visible after being sewn into in a quilt. This pattern really does showcase your fabrics!

2. I needed a pattern that was easy to use for memory quilts made from clothing items like men’s dress shirts and women’s blouses. Simply cut a fat quarter from the back of each shirt to incorporate the clothing into the Ponder Pieces pattern.

3. I wrote this pattern while I was with my friends of over 25 years! I wanted to commemorate our time spent together at a retreat house we loved called, Ponder Place. 🫶🏼

Do you need a project to use up all the little 2 1/2 inch squares you have left over from last year’s projects? I have the pattern for you!

Rhapsody Rainbow gives you an opportunity to incorporate 20 different fabrics arranged in a manner that’s pleasing to your eye. If you struggle to decide which fabric to put where, you can utilize the coloring sheet in the pattern so you feel confident about your placement, plus it will give you a “map” to follow as you sew.

This is also the perfect pattern for leftover pieces from fat eighths and fat quarters… you know what I’m talking about, the pieces you just can’t seem to throw away or donate. 😘 The cutting chart on page 4 gives you the exact number of 2 1/2 inch squares needed for each fabric.

Today is the first day of Winter! ❄️ Texas upped its Fall color game right before Autumn ended yesterday. 👏 Running errands the past two weeks has revealed a gorgeous scenery right around McKinney!

One morning this week I happened to look outside and was overjoyed to see the lighting was *just right* for some Sweater Weather Sampler pictures! It was a balmy 31 degrees and my Texas wardrobe wasn’t sufficient for a long shoot 😂 but I digress. I didn’t have any photos of my completed quilt (despite it being finished for months now 🤦🏽‍♀️) so I was thrilled to get some shots!

I have this strange habit of saying each quilt is my favorite as I’m making them but this one might *actually* be my favorite. It signifies so many things for me.

✅ Friendship with the Nine Patch Quilt Collective

✅ Falling in love with a color palette that feels like me and finding confidence through color

✅ Pushing through a hard season and leaning into relying on others for help (I’m looking at you @quilt_scouts @jskaehillius @willyskae @jenn_run2.30 and the mcbillion people who gave me rides for months until I could drive again)

✅ A season of growth. This quilt symbolizes so much growth in me physically, emotionally, and professionally.

✅ Community! This year y’all were incredibly kind and helpful to each other in the Facebook group. What a joy it was to have a seat at that table and watch y’all love on each other, encourage, guide, teach, and giggle together. 🥹

2024 was another busy year. Despite having major repairs done to my shoulder and being out for almost 4 months, I still managed to start and complete over 60 quilts. I have an incredible team over here!

Jennifer is my interfacing prep superhero, Sarah is my current long arm quilter, and my husband & son are my quilt holders. On the fabric shop side of my business, my son is my quilt kit cutter & folder. On the design side of my business, Rachel is my pattern tech editor and I have an INCREDIBLE pool of pattern testers. I couldn’t do this business without any of them!

This year my niece swooped in and helped me clean out my entire office & closet to make them work in tandem with the functions of my business. I love walking into my office and just basking in the organization. Ahhhhhh!!!

I’m gearing up for a busy 2025 with 41 customer quilts and 3 pattern releases already on the schedule.

But first, I’m just going to sit here in my clean office and count my blessings. What a gift it is to be able to create things for others and for my family. Such a gift!

A huge thank you to my customers who trust me to make quilts with their irreplaceable clothing items. Your continued trust in me means more than I can properly convey. ♥️🫎🧵

Four years ago my husband just about begged me to make him a quilt with traditional Fall colors. Autumn is his most favorite season. He willingly and eagerly pulls out the Fall decorations each year the moment it’s socially acceptable, even if it’s still 100+ degrees in Texas.

This is still his favorite quilt four years later. He loves every color because they remind him of the bold and bright Fall colors of his best childhood years in Pennsylvania. The rich oranges, yellows and reds of the northeast look like they fell right out of a crayola box. The boldness of this quilt takes him right back to his adventures in the woods behind his house while the leaves were ablaze with saturated colors. He can smell the leaves and hear the crunch of the leaves beneath his feet when he tells me stories. He once had an encounter with a bear on one of his adventures. 😳 Deer and squirrels would even approach him as he sat with perfect stillness (a skill he still has today). Animals loved him then and they still love him now.

It makes my heart happy to see him snuggled under it even while the a/c blasts cold air in October and November. We just now have Fall colors in the Dallas area and they are gorgeous! It makes me want to sit outside the entire day and soak in the beauty.

There’s no pattern nor fabric requirements for this quilt. I didn’t even have a plan when I got started. I just found a basic block I thought he would like and repeated it over and over in an array of colors he loves.

Sometimes it’s best not to overcomplicate a process and simply sew from the heart for someone you love. And I do love him so. 🍁

Four years ago my husband just about begged me to make him a quilt with traditional Fall colors. Autumn is his most favorite season. He willingly and eagerly pulls out the Fall decorations each year the moment it’s socially acceptable, even if it’s still 100+ degrees in Texas.

This is still his favorite quilt four years later. He loves every color because they remind him of the bold and bright Fall colors of his best childhood years in Pennsylvania. The rich oranges, yellows and reds of the northeast look like they fell right out of a crayola box. The boldness of this quilt takes him right back to his adventures in the woods behind his house while the leaves were ablaze with saturated colors. He can smell the leaves and hear the crunch of the leaves beneath his feet when he tells me stories. He once had an encounter with a bear on one of his adventures. 😳 Deer and squirrels would even approach him as he sat with perfect stillness (a skill he still has today). Animals loved him then and they still love him now.

It makes my heart happy to see him snuggled under it even while the a/c blasts cold air in October and November. We just now have Fall colors in the Dallas area and they are gorgeous! It makes me want to sit outside the entire day and soak in the beauty.

Real talk. Life is busy. It’s busy for me, and for you and for him and for her and for EVERYONE. I have never ever been this behind in my work as I have been this Fall and it’s been quite taxing emotionally and physically.

This little corner has become my sanity corner. I keep a basket of “quiet time” things next to my favorite chair. I have a coloring Bible, colored pencils, awesome felt tip markers/pens, charging cables, a blanket my mom crocheted for me, and ALWAYS a quilt. Always. Let us not forget a nice warm beverage for the cherry on top!

The window sill is multi-faceted. Sometimes it’s where I put my feet, sometimes it holds my coffee or a small snack, and sometimes it’s where I set my phone so I can just be still and watch the birds in the feeders. (And sometimes a cat steals my entire view because she things all things are for her … including the best birdwatching spots!)

I’m not the best at taking time to be still but there is MUCH restoration available for the taking when I do take the time to stop and breathe. My quilts bring me joy and I like to look over the little details while I sit in stillness… the binding, my fabric choices, details in the hand embroidered labels, and all the memories that go with the time of year when I made each quilt.

I know December can be a.lot.for.everyone. but I hope and pray that you have a sanity corner where you can go to breathe, focus on gratitude and restore your joy.

We have a decade and a half between our ages and yet she’s one of my greatest confidants. Friendships can be blessings no matter the age gap or geographical distance, and my friendship with @sewjoyfulstudio blesses me on the regular. She’s hilariously and genuinely real, so kind, and extremely talented. I’m so thankful she’s in my life.

When Rachel offered to test the bed size Sun Still quilt, I about fell over with gratitude because I know this girl is already busy about so many great things. What we found out through her testing process is that the bed size *also* only took approximately five hours to make, just like all the other sizes!

When someone says “this is an ACTUAL sunset I’m trying to recreate” you drop everything and start pulling bolts of fabric to help find the perfect palette. This girl has so much talent that I am starstruck by her! She pieces gorgeous things on the regular AND she has free tutorials linked in her bio!

Emily of @marthajanecreations curated a version of my Sun Still mini that will make you rethink everything you thought was obvious in quilting.

Why didn’t I think to put two sunset blocks together to make a show-stopper table runner? I have no idea but it’s all good because EMILY DID! Then she executed it brilliantly with gorgeous colors that make me feel like I’m watching the sun go down while soft and warm colors streak across the sky.

What an honor it has been to have Becca testing my Sun Still pattern. 😊 Becca’s collection of fabrics, called Land of Enchantment, are simply gorgeous together in my design. The rich colors are the perfect reflection of what you would see in New Mexico, including hot air balloons at their big annual festival. 🎈

@quiltingabovetheclouds took my Sun Still mini and ran with it so hard and so fast that she made an entire tote in about 3 minutes. She used the Stellar tote pattern by Sandy at @thaicharmllc which happens to be MY favorite tote pattern as well! Y’all look at this tote!!! It’s. So. Good.

Have you ever had a burning question to ask a stranger and you talk yourself out of it for a long time? That was me. But then one day I messaged this girl on Instagram and tripped over myself asking if @its.sew.nichole wanted to test for me.

She was like “I’m so honored aaaand I have questions.” And so it began … another fun relationship with a talented quilter I’ve never actually met in person. I know I’m not the only one making internet friends out here!

Nichole jumped in with both feet and outdid herself with this fabulous version of my Sun Still pattern. She had excellent feedback and suggestions - and even pointed out that I pretty much skipped over the instructions on cutting the binding 🫣 No worries, we fixed it 😂 This is exactly why we test things, people.

☀️ It’s Sun Still Release Day! There is a magical time of day when I wish the sun would stay perfectly still. Sometimes it’s during sunrise and sometimes it’s during sunset. The sky gets painted in magical colors that bring me such peace. Hold on to those magic moments and make your own sunrise or sunset in colors that make you swoon!

💨 This pattern is perfect for beginners and y’all it’s such a FAST make. I can’t state that often enough. You’ll see versions of Sun Still from my testers over the next several days and we found that no matter what size we made it only took an average of 5 hours to cut every piece and make the entire quilt top!
